Of all the great golf courses in the Central Florida area, Steve Smyer's creation at Southern Dunes may be the most unique. Central Florida has an abundance of courses that typify the style generally found in the state. However, not very often can locals and tourists find a course in Florida that has such unique topography to it. This dramatic hillside layout stretches to over 7,200 yards and features 100 ft. of elevation change, large undulating greens, massive high lipped bunkers, Dunes that are covered with high grasses and ornamentals which form borders that tumble with the terrain. This championship Mike Dasher design gives you pine tree-lined fairways reminiscent of the Carolinas, open spacious fairways likened to the great Scottish courses, and a bit of old Florida with citrus trees along the countryside. The Ted McAnlis-designed layout at this resort has a top reputation among golfers, many enjoying their golf so much they return time after time. The course opened in 1994 with both nines featuring strategically placed hazards and fairways framed by sparkling white sand bunkers. Par-4 and par-5 holes have generous tee shot landing areas, all of which are plainly visible form the tee. Ridgewood is not one of those courses with “gimmicks” or hidden trouble; just a great layout made for an enjoyable golfing experience.
